What is the Obalon Balloon System?
The Obalon Balloon System provides an option for patients who have struggled to lose weight but cannot or do not want to have weight-loss surgery. The system includes swallowable, lightweight balloons that take up space in your stomach, enabling you to feel full and eat less.
How does it work?
Placing the Obalon system usually only takes 10 minutes per balloon and doesn’t require sedation. For this procedure, you simply swallow a capsule that contains a small balloon. Your physician then inflates the balloon.
After the first balloon, you will usually swallow a second balloon capsule one month after the first balloon and a third balloon capsule two months after the second balloon. All balloons are taken out six months after the first balloon capsule is swallowed.
The system includes a healthy diet and exercise program during the time the balloons are placed and for six months after the balloons are removed.

What is required of the patient to achieve success?
The Obalon Balloon System can help with your weight loss efforts, but the degree of long-term weight loss will depend on your ability to modify your lifestyle and maintain this behavior after the balloons are removed. It is important that you discuss your willingness to accept this commitment with your physician before undergoing the treatment.
